CAMDEN, SC (WIS) -
Kershaw County deputies arrested a man on Wednesday suspected of operating a mobile meth lab and delivering the drug to a location in Camden.
Deputies stopped 51-year-old James Makham Godfrey after a short chase and charged him with manufacturing of methamphetamine, resisting arrest, failure to stop for blue lights, and possession of cocaine.
Officials say during that chase, Godfrey threw out several handfuls of white powder onto the road. When he was finally stopped, a belligerent Godfrey had to be pulled out of his car by deputies through the driver's side window.
Upon searching his car, deputies located a mobile meth lab in the back of Godfrey's truck, along with hazardous waste by-products from the manufacturing of the drug, investigators said.
Investigators also searched a home believed to belong to Godfrey on Highway 1 near Cassatt and found additional chemicals, a small amount of what appeared to be cocaine, and marijuana.
Officials say Godfrey has a lengthy criminal record going back to 1989 with arrests for DUI, narcotics violations, resisting arrest, grand larceny, vandalism, escape, trespassing, criminal domestic violence, public disorderly conduct, burglary, conspiracy, criminal mischief, assault while resisting arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Godfrey is currently housed at the Kershaw County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
