COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

South Carolina reserve quarterback Tanner McEvoy has left the Gamecocks and hopes to transfer to another school, according to a release from the athletics department.

"The Gamecock coaching staff and I wish Tanner all the best, as he continues his collegiate career elsewhere," said coach Steve Spurrier in a statement.

McEvoy, a freshman from New Jersey, was listed as the fourth-team QB in the fall lineup. In the spring game, he threw for 132 yards on 8 of 12 passing.

The reserve QB was also recently suspended from the team following an off-the-field issue. McEvoy was charged in Mecklenberg County for speeding and driving after consuming while under 21.

McEvoy did not play last season and sat out as a redshirt. He was looking to compete in a backup role behind starter Connor Shaw.
