COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Foul play is not expected as the cause in the death of an inmate at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on Wednesday night, according to the Richland County Coroner's Office.

According to Gary Watts, 23-year-old Mshari Russell was found alone in her cell and unresponsive around 9:40 p.m.

Russell was transported to Palmetto Health Richland, where she was pronounced dead at 11:02 p.m.

Watts says Russell had been placed on suicide watch as a precaution due to her hallucinating after being booked at the jail. She was assessed in 5 minute intervals per jail protocol.

An autopsy performed on Russell showed no signs of trauma or foul play. A final cause of death will be determined following a toxicology report and further studies.
