World-famous Wienermobile stops in Five Points

Posted: Updated:

Its myth precedes it where ever it goes -- like Sasquatch or Bigfoot or maybe even aliens from another planet.

"Did you see it?" someone might ask.

Blink for a second, and, well, you probably still won't miss it. At more than 27-feet long, there's not a chance you won't see it barreling down the road. After all, it's one of America's most unmistakable cars.

It's also a giant advertisement, but we won't hold that thought against it.

It's the world-famous Oscar Mayer Wienermobile, and if you were in Five Points on Tuesday night, you probably got a chance to see the country's favorite hot dog-shaped car.

Despite a rainy evening, folks outside the Five Points Food Lion were able to take in the majesty of the car in an unscheduled stop.

The Wienermobile and its drivers -- "hotdoggers" as they're called by Oscar Mayer -- are driving all over the country this year. So far, they've been to New York, Illinois, Washington DC, and Maryland.

Luckily, you haven't missed your only chance to see the giant hot dog. The company says they're in the state from July 31 until August 5.

  • August 2, 2012 at the BI-LO on Forum Drive from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • August 3, 2012 at Shaw Air Force Base from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • August 4, 2012 at the Fort Jackson Commissary from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • August 5, 2012 at the BI-LO on Devine Street from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Next up, the Wienermobile heads to the Indiana State Fair where its myth will likely follow -- along with a lot of hot dog puns and plenty of curious stares.
