GREENVILLE COUNTY, SC (WYFF) - Greenville County deputies have arrested and charged a mother after her child drowned in a family pool on Tuesday.
Deputies and the coroner were at the home on Seabury Drive near Pelham and Hudson roads at about 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Greenville County Coroner Jeff Fowler said the call came in to emergency personnel as a drowning.
Fowler said the child, Chance Stringer, was found in the family pool by his mother.
His
twin brother and another sibling were at the pool when the child was
discovered. He was taken to Greenville Memorial where he was pronounced
dead.
Fowler said the mother thought the children were inside the home with her and did not realize they were outside.
He said Chance liked to throw rocks in the pool and may have fallen in it.
On Wednesday, 36-year-old Marian Brownfield Stringer was charged with homicide by neglect.
Deputies
said Stringer failed to appropriately watch the child and her neglect
caused the child's death. They said Stringer had a strong odor of
alcohol when they spoke to her.
An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
