COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Investigators are looking into the suicide of an inmate at Alvin. S. Glenn Detention Center.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts says 25-year-old Joshua L. Sullivan of Columbia hanged himself Friday.

Watts says a detention center officer was making rounds and discovered what had happened.  Watts says the officer was unable to resuscitate Sullivan.  He says the cause of death was asphyxiation due to hanging.

Sullivan was charged with arson and malicious injury to animals. He was arrested in June on charges stemming from a fire bomb attempt on the building housing the Department of Probation, Parole and Pardons.

There is an ongoing investigation into his death.
