A South Carolina Highway Patrol officer who was hit by a car on Interstate 26 Friday has been released from the hospital.

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety says 27-year-old Trooper Howard James, Jr. was released from the hospital Thursday afternoon.

James was investigating a crash on I-26, when a vehicle slammed into his patrol vehicle parked alongside the road last Friday.  The impact pushed the patrol vehicle into James.

The crash occurred at the 142 mile marker of I-26 westbound in Orangeburg County just after 5 p.m.

Trooper James has been serving with the Highway Patrol since 2010.  He worked in Troop B, serving Orangeburg and Calhoun Counties.

This is the second crash involving a highway patrol officer in eight days.

Last Thursday, Trooper R.M. Falls was injured in a crash as he was responding to a call in Sumter County.

The Department of Public Safety says Trooper Falls is expected to be released from the hospital this week.
