COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -
Democrats and Republicans took to the House floor Tuesday to fight Gov. Nikki Haley's veto of funding for the state's rape crisis centers.
Both sides were angry over Haley's veto message, calling rape victims distractions to DHEC's mission.
"A distraction is firing Darla Moore. A distraction is what she did with the Port of Charleston and sending that business to the state of Georgia. This is a disgrace, ladies and gentlemen," said Rep. Boyd Brown. "This is not a distraction and the governor should be ashamed of herself."
"Being a survivor of rape does not make you a distraction in government," said Rep. Joan Brady.
