GREENVILLE COUNTY, SC (WYFF/WIS) - Three of nine Boy Scouts injured Friday night when their camp van crashed in Greenville County are from the Columbia area.

Mike Butler with the Blue Ridge Council of the Boy Scouts of America confirmed that three of the injured scouts were from Troop 413 of the Indian Waters Council.

Officials with the Glassy Mountain Fire Department said a van from Camp White Pines crashed about a half a mile from Camp Old Indian on Callahan Mountain Road shortly before 10 p.m. Friday.

Fire officials said the van carrying the group had just left the camp, came around a curve, lost control and flipped down an embankment.

According to the Glassy Mountain Fire Chief, when firefighters arrived, one person was trapped in the van, and that others were helping keep that injured teen out of the water.

Ten campers and a counselor were taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital. The scouts were 15 to 16 years-old.

Butler said six were treated and released Friday night.  As of Sunday afternoon, Butler said four boys remained in the hospital.

Butler said the injuries of one local scout led to a leg amputation, and he was taken to the burn unit at an Augusta hospital for treatment. He remains hospitalized.

Doug Stone with the Indian Waters Council said two others were treated and released early Saturday morning.

Butler said the boys parents were notified immediately after the crash occurred.

"Our utmost concern and primary consideration is for the boys and their families," said Butler. "We're making sure the boys and their families get the care they need."

The van was carrying boy scouts from Camp Old Indian to Camp White Pine for the night.

The driver was a 19-year-old Zachary Gentry of Greenwood, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Butler said Gentry is an employee of the camp.  Troopers said no charges have been filed, and the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
