DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate a fatal accident that occurred Friday afternoon.

Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee identified the man killed in the crash today as Phillip Taylor, Jr., 58, of Sumter, SC. He was wearing a seat belt.

According to the SC Highway Patrol's website, the accident occurred around 3:59 p.m. on Hartsville Highway near Quiet Brook.

Lance Corporal Brent Kelly tells WMBF News that a 1999 Dodge truck was driving north on Hartsville Highway and ran off the roadway to avoid another vehicle that had slowed, trying to turn left.

The truck struck a ditch and overturned. There were three occupants in the truck and all them were wearing their seatbelts.

The 44-year-old-driver and 15-year-old passenger were transported to Carolina Pines with minor injuries. Taylor was pronounced dead on the scene, Kelly says.
