Tough city water restrictions make the summer heat even worse

WINNSBORO, SC (WIS) -

In Columbia, there are a lot of things for kids to do in the summer, but in Winnsboro, the choices are a bit more limited. Seventeen-year-old Angel Anderson has figured out the options.

"We ain't got many," Anderson said. "We got the pool everyone goes to, maybe a park to play ball, or the library. That's all."

This summer, they almost lost that pool part all together. Because of an extreme water pinch in Winnsboro, the city told locals with empty pools that they could not fill them up.

But there's another problem. What about the city's pool?

Coucilmember Clyde Sanders admits it's a decision he waffled on, filling up a pool when he told his constituents not to but he says it all came down to one thing.

"This pool in the town of Winnsboro, as well as other small towns, a lot of children don't have the opportunity to go on vacations. This pool is their vacation," Sanders said.

While the pool is closed on some days, it will be open most of the week, giving even the most bored of teenagers something to do.

The water restrictions could be lifted very soon, so people could have freedom to fill their pools before summer's end. Winnsboro will soon be getting some water from the city of Columbia.
