COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

The Columbia-Richland Fire Department believes a large brush fire in Northeast Richland County  Wednesday night was sparked by fireworks.

According to Chief Aubrey Jenkins, the blaze started around 9 p.m. and was the size of a football field at one time.

Officials say a pile of debris/clippings on the golf course caught fire near the country club in the Wildewood Subdivision off Mallet Hill Road.

The blaze was finally put out around 4 a.m. and Mallet Hill Road was reopened.

Crews believe fireworks are to blame.

The Columbia-Richland Fire Department says they responded to more than 40 calls last night.

No major damage or injuries were reported.
