SCE&G filing to increase residential rates

Posted: Updated:
CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Keeping cool could cost you more if SCE&G has their way. The company wants a rate increase.

The company has filed for a rate hike with South Carolina's Public Service Commission.  If approved, residential rates would increase by almost five percent.

The electric company says the increase is necessary.

A public hearing is expected to be held in the fall. If approved, the increase would take effect in January of next year.
