Hyman resigns to take open Texas A&M job

Posted: Updated:

USC athletics director Eric Hyman has resigned from his position at the university to take the same open position at Texas A&M University, according to university officials.

Hyman leaves South Carolina after 7 years. He previously worked at Texas Christian University as their athletics director.

At Texas A&M, Hyman will be taking over a program that is joining the Southeastern Conference on Sunday after many years with the Big XII Conference.

Texas A&M athletic director Bill Byrne resigned his position earlier this year.

Details, such as contract information, have not been confirmed. The Texas A&M Board of Regents is expected to meet Friday afternoon to talk about the open position.

According to The Big Spur, Hyman's two children live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. One source indicated that Hyman, when he retires, plans to do so in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Hyman's tenure at USC has been marked by several updates to the university's athletics facilities, including the building of the Dodie Anderson Academic Enrichment Center and Carolina Stadium.

In his $200 million master plan, Hyman looked to convert the Farmer's Market into a football parking lot and tailgate area for the fans. That portion of the plan received approval and is among the many face lifts and upgrades currently in the works at Williams-Brice Stadium.

Another big upgrade to the stadium, a new video board, is also under construction and should be ready for the fall season.

The USC Board of Trustees is expected to begin the search for Hyman's replacement immediately.
