LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

A woman was shot and killed over the weekend and her boyfriend stands accused of being the trigger man.

Authorities say 22-year-old Genesis Matthew Pearson was charged with murder and possessing a weapon during the commission of a violent crime in connection with the death of 21-year-old Alishia Monique Dorsey

"It's been a long time since I've seen something like this," said neighbor Gloria McCoy.

McCoy has lived in Hendrex Mobile Home Park for 16 years. She was surprised to wake up and see deputies next door.

"I was like, 'Wow. What is this?'" McCoy said.

Investigators say Pearson and Dorsey were headed to pick up their son from a relative. Officers believe the couple had an argument while driving down Leaphart Road and Pearson, who was behind the wheel, pulled out a gun and shot Dorsey.

When investigators arrived just before 2 a.m. Sunday, they say Dorsey was barely alive and her boyfriend was wearing bloody clothes.

Detectives at the Lexington County Sheriff's Department say they found a 9mm handgun and a bloody shirt dumped off Leaphart Road. Ballistics and forensics tests will be conducted to determine whether they are connected to deadly shooting.

Pearson and Dorsey were visiting from Baltimore.

Yesenia Ortiz lives across the street.

"When I came back to my home, the police were all right here, and I see the girl was in the yard," Ortiz said.

"I feel sad for the little boy because now he doesn't have a mother," Ortiz said.

The couple had been together for 4 years. Pearson's father is in shock and says his son wasn't raised this way. He thinks he just snapped.

"I pity the parents and the family that it happened to 'cause no one should be that angry to kill someone," McCoy said.
