ROCK HILL, SC (WBTV) -

Family members say a neighbor rushed to their Dad's rescue when he smashed out a window with a shovel and pulled him from their burning home.

The incident was reported at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday on the 600 block of Montgomery Road.

Four people were inside the home when the fire broke out, according to the Rock Hill Fire Department.

Three of them escaped out a rear window and ran across the street to the neighbor's house to ask them to call 911.

One of the ladies said Don Efantis was still inside.

The neighbor grabbed a shovel, rushed across the street and broke open the front bedroom window, pulling out Efantis.

The neighbor cut his arm on the glass and had to get 6 stitches, according to the fire department.

Efantis was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in unknown condition.

The house is a total loss with damage estimated at $75,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
