Gamecocks' trip to kid's hospital could be just what the doctor ordered

OMAHA, NE (WIS) -

A team used to delivering wins instead brought smiles to the Children's Hospital and Medical Center in Omaha on Tuesday morning.

The trip to the hospital is becoming a tradition. It's the 3rd straight year the Gamecocks have stopped by.

"Any time we can go and make a difference in someone's life, that's really good," said Joey Pankake. "They really helped us out too by showing us how fortunate to be where we are."

That's a sentiment shared by many more of his teammates.

"It's cool that it brings a smile to their faces," said Evan Marzilli. "Whether they know who you are or not, it's cool that they follow the College World Series. It puts everything in perspective. Never take anything for granted."

The visit came hours after Carolina dropped their first game in 22 post-season match-ups, which may have been the perfect time for the players.

"It just reassures you on everything you have to be thankful for," said Christian Walker.

It was Walker's third trip to the hospital. He says as great as it is to be playing in the College World Series, it pales in comparison to what he saw today.

"You know this is fun and it's a great experience, and obviously the biggest things on our minds is going home. But after going there, it makes you realize that it's just a game," Walker said. "There are a lot of other things to be worried about."
