WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A man wanted on outstanding warrants on Southeastern North Carolina ended up biting back when a police dog tried to take him down during an arrest.

On Sunday afternoon, when Wilmington Police officers tracked down 22-year-old Travis Keith Glaspie, he tried to run away.

That's when Maxx, a K-9 officer took over. According to police, as the two struggled Glaspie bit the dog's ear so badly that the animal needed several stitches.

Glaspie was also bitten during the confrontation. He was eventually apprehended, but police said he remained combative throughout the arrest process.

He was taken to the hospital to be checked before being sent to jail.

Glaspie was charged with assault on a law enforcement animal, resisting arrest, assault on a law enforcement officer, property damage and possession of a scheduled six controlled substance. His bond was set at $1,025,000.

Glaspie was originally wanted for outstanding warrants associated with firing into an occupied vehicle. Police said a man and a woman were sitting in a vehicle when a man they recognized as Glaspie rode by on a bike and fired two shots into their car. One round reportedly struck the rear door and one struck the front tire. Neither occupant was injured, police said.
