LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

Lexington County Sheriff's deputies say they arrested a man who pulled a gun during an argument near the Dreher Shoals Dam Thursday evening.

Deputies arrested 41-year-old Royce Nichols of Gaston and took him to the Lexington County Detention Center on a charge of pointing and presenting a firearm.

Deputies were called to the SCE&G park on the Lexington side of the dam at about 7:14 p.m. Thursday for a report of a disturbance involving a man with a handgun.

Investigators say Nichols got into an argument with people at the park and pulled a gun.

According to a Lexington County Sheriff's Department incident report, Royce told investigators that he had consumed a six-pack of beer and became upset when a man he didn't know threatened him.

Royce said he presented the gun to the man because he felt his life was in danger. Investigators say Royce did not point the gun at anyone.

Deputies kept people away from the park until he was taken into custody.
