COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

A formal agreement signed between the Richland County Sheriff's Department and the Columbia Police Department will allow CPD officers to work in the county without jurisdictional limits.

Sheriff Leon Lott and Chief Randy Scott appeared at a joint press conference on Thursday to discuss and sign the 6-month agreement.

Lott explains the agreement allows CPD officers to work out in the county without limits placed by jurisdictional lines.

"The citizens expect us to work together because we serve all the same citizens, and they don't want us to be in competition and they don't want us to not work together," Lott said.

"We're still training together, we're still working together. Because when that call comes, no one cares whether it's a white patrol car or a black patrol car. They want to know law enforcement is there to help them and there to serve them," Scott said.

The agreement will also allow for the sheriff's department to train CPD officers in victim's services, uniform patrol, criminal investigations, fugitive apprehension, warrant services, and training.
