LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) -
A little bridge with big problems continues to cause controversy. Last month, folks in Lexington County used See, Click, Fix to tell us about a bridge they say had been reduced to a dangerous one lane road for years.
Last month, the problem was concrete barricades that had blocked off a
decaying chunk of road for more than a year. The county set to work and
closed the road completely. That was 3 weeks ago and the road's still closed.
"Now I have to go all the way around," said Stacy Culbreath. "And in the mornings everybody has to go all the way around, so it's probably 5 or 6 minutes each way. You know going home it's the same thing."
Culbreath isn't trying to make a big deal out of the little road, but she's one of many who are asking what's going on.
"I mean, it's been almost a month. And if they were doing something or actively working on it, that'd be a different story," Culbreath said.
The county says they are working on it, but the weather and location haven't helped. It took months to get the permits and permission to get started, but then they had to build a road to get down below street level, and now they're having to excavate part of the dam.
It's construction that means closing the road and finding a new way to work for Culbreath.
"It's just frustrating because it would be nice if it was fixed," Culbreath said. "That was not a resolution."
That resolution, the county says, is still about a month away.
