CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -
Charlotte police have arrested a Charlotte man after they say he robbed a woman after he helped her unlock her car after she left her keys in it.
Delvechhio Mills, 28, was arrested for a common law robbery he committed in the North Tryon Division, according to a news release from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
On June 4, at approximately 3 a.m., officers responded to a robbery call for service at the Budget Inn located at 4330 Old Interstate Road.
The female victim stated that the suspect assisted her in opening her car after she locked her keys inside the vehicle.
The victim stated she agreed to pay for a hotel room for the suspect as a reward for his assistance. The victim drove the suspect to the hotel in an attempt to pay for his room. The suspect then demanded that victim give him all of her money.
The victim refused and the suspect grabbed the victim's wallet and keys from the car's ignition before jumping out of the car and running from the location.
Officers detained an individual matching the suspect's description a short time later. The victim was transported to the area where the suspect had been detained and positively identified Delvechhio Mills as the man who robbed her.
Mills has been charged with common law robbery and resisting public officer.
