COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS/AP) - This weekend's NCAA Super Regional series are the last games some Gamecocks will play at Carolina Stadium.
Senior Adam Matthews was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds. Matt Price, Christian Walker and Evan Marzilli are all juniors who were drafted and will probably sign pro contracts.
And then there's senior pitcher Michael Roth. He broke into the spotlight during the 2010 world series and he's been there ever since.
Saturday he'll make his final start at home.
Oklahoma coach Sunny Golloway's message to his team for the NCAA super regional series against South Carolina is simple: The Sooners have beaten the 2-time defending national champions before and they can do it again.
Since losing to Oklahoma, the Gamecocks have reeled off 19 straight postseason victories, including a pair of national championships.
Oklahoma (42-23) was the last team to defeat South Carolina (43-17) at the 2010 College World Series before the Gamecocks began a run of 19 straight NCAA tournament victories. Golloway stirred up some fire among Gamecock fans when he mentioned that victory after the Sooners advanced to the best-of-3 series that starts Saturday at Carolina Stadium.
Golloway said he's just showing belief in his team, which has played its best when its back was against the wall. The Sooners had to win four straight after losing the opener to take the Charlottesville Regional.
The game is at 8 p.m. at Carolina Stadium. Game two of the series is Sunday at 7 p.m. If a game three is necessary, it's Monday at 7 p.m. Count on WIS News 10 to have hilights and complete game coverage on the news at 11. Rick Henry will be reporting live from the ballpark.
