Blowfish owner looking for new Midlands home for team

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

The Columbia Blowfish are here to stay -- at least that's according to the owner of the baseball team.

Bill Shanahan held a news conference Thursday to discuss the future of the team. Earlier this week, Columbia City Council voted to sell the Capital City Stadium property to a commercial real estate developer.

Shanahan says he's considering moving the Blowfish to Lexington County. He's talked with several government officials, including the mayors of Lexington and Cayce.

Shanahan says ideally a new stadium would be able to accommodate between 3,500 and 6,000 fans. It would be a multipurpose facility that, in addition to baseball, could be used for football, soccer, and concerts.

Shanahan says if Capital City Stadium is not an option in 2013 and a new ballpark isn't ready, he'll look at playing in an existing facility in the Midlands for one season.
