Doctor accused of groping patient

FAIRFAX, SC (WIS) - A South Carolina doctor has been arrested and charged with assault and battery in the second degree after a patient of his complained that he touched her inappropriately in November, 2011.

Dr. Robert Major Jones, 57, of Orangeburg was booked into the Allendale County Detention Center on Monday morning.

He is accused of groping a female patient while at the Low Country Health Care System in Fairfax.

According to a SLED arrest affidavit, Dr. Jones on November 4, concluded the examination on a patient and touched her "on the butt" as she attempted to leave the exam room. The victim, investigators said, pushed Jones back and asked him what he was doing.

As she attempted to leave again, Jones grabbed her from behind and groped both of her breasts, according to the affidavit. She then used her elbow to shove him away from her and leaned over covering his front side, investigators said. He told her to "wait a minute so that he could calm himself down because he got too excited," the affidavit said.

The case is the result of an investigation conducted by SLED at the request of the Fairfax Police Department.
