WIS Television is NBC in the Midlands. WIS is the dominant television station in the 11-county Columbia television market. The station's news broadcasts are among the most-watched programs in the Midlands and have been for more than 50 years.
Broadcasting on channel 10 and digital channel 41, WIS reaches 36 of South Carolina's 46 counties over the air, on direct broadcast satellite, and on cable. WIS also provides 24-hour news and information on its award-winning web site, WIStv.com.
WIS Television is owned by Raycom Media, a major group broadcaster based in Montgomery, Alabama.

WIS History: The inaugural broadcast on WIS Television was a University of South Carolina football game, carried live on November 7, 1953. In the decades that followed, the station has been committed to aggressive coverage of local news and special events. In recent years WIS has received several honors reflecting that commitment. In November 2002, WIS News 10 got an "A" grade in a nationwide study of television newscasts conducted by The Project for Excellence in Journalism, a research organization based at Columbia University. In both 2003 and 2005, WIS received an Emmy Award for Best Newscast from the Southeast Region of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. And for three years in a row -- 2003, 2004, and 2005 -- the South Carolina Broadcasters Association recognized WIS as its Television Station of the Year!
