National Guardsman shot in Washington, GA

Investigators with the GBI say they still do not have a suspect in the shooting of a 35-year-old national guardsman in Washington, GA. 


UPDATE: Washington, GA Police tell FOX54 the victim is a 35 year old reservist and is the Sergeant in Charge at the facility. He was shot in the leg. At this point they have no description of the suspect and they are treating the case as a burglary. Bloodhounds were brought in from the Thomson Police Department to assist in the search, but have since left the scene. Investigators from the Washington Police Department, Wilkes County Sheriff's Office and the GBI are on the scene.

FOX54 has confirmed a National Guardsman has been shot in Washington, GA.

The incident happened around 6am Thursday morning at the National Guard Armory at 500 Water Street. Investigators are on the scene and are searching for the gunman. We're told the victim was taken to GHSU and is currently being interviewed by GBI investigators. The victim is expected to be ok.

Schools in the area have been put on lock down. Officers tell FOX54 the shooter should be considered armed and dangerous.

FOX54 has a crew on the way and will have more information as it becomes available.
