LEXINGTON COUNTY (WIS) - From irritating
allergies to the mess it makes, it seems it would be hard to find anybody who
would enjoy the pollen season.
But not so fast, Shawn Hutchins at Frank's
Car Wash in Lexington County is a fan. "We love the pollen," said Hutchins.
"[It] increases volume by about seven percent on the exteriors and it gets a
lot more traffic, some new customers."
Hutchins says this is the busiest time of the
year for the Frank's Car Wash on Lake Murray Boulevard. He adds the store can see
anywhere between 250 and 300 cars a day, and he believes for good reason. "It's
best to have it professionally done because pollen could scratch your
car if you were to wipe it with a towel [if it is] just sitting their dry
without any lubrication or anything," said Hutchins.
Many of the customers waiting in line at
Frank's said it was simply just more convenient for them to bring their car to
a professional car wash, but the experts say it's also better for the
environment.
"It's environmentally not friendly to wash
your car at home because all your polymers and soaps and stuff go into the
storm drain which run off into the creeks, rivers, lakes and so on," said
Hutchins.
DHEC officials confirm that's a fact. The
water at most professional facilities goes back into the sewer system instead
of local watersheds.
That may make Hutchins love for pollen a
little easier to bear. Some customers like Suzanne Williams, say they have
other reasons for putting up with the pollen.
"I like the beach, so I like summer," said
Williams. ""But this in between with the pollen is not my favorite time, but
I'll take it for the warm weather.
