CHARLESTON, SC (AP) - Former South Carolina first lady Jenny Sanford faces a $150 fine
after a judge lowered the original fine of $1040 which was given to
Sanford after her dog escaped from her yard.
Sanford appeared in municipal court on Sullivans Island on Tuesday
and told the judge that there was a lot going on during the day which
contributed to her dog's escape. She was fined more than one thousand dollars back in February after her 8-year-old black lab Julius escaped from the yard of her beachfront home.
Sanford concedes her dog got away, but says the amount of the fine doesn't match the offense.
Police Chief Danny Howard says the fine is high because several other
dogs also wandered off from the Sanford residence. Howard says those
who go to court might have fines reduced based on the circumstances of
their cases.
