CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Police in Charlotte have released the 911 call a mother made after hearing her 7-year-old daughter was almost kidnapped over the weekend.
"My daughter and the other children, they were playing outside," said the mother. "There was a guy who tired to actually pick her up and took her over to another building," she told the dispatcher.
According to police, officers were called to the 9500 block of Long Creek Green Drive on Saturday evening after the attempted kidnapping.
Officers told WBTV the man picked her up and ran behind an apartment building. The young girl screamed for help and was released by the man a short time later.
"The seven year old did exactly what we'd hope she would do. She yelled and she screamed and started struggling," said CMPD Detective Lee Tuttle.
Tuttle said the child was not injured and the man ran away.
"Detectives have been working this case aggressively since the incident was reported and will return to the scene with the intention of gathering additional information in the case this evening," police told WBTV.
Police say the suspect is described as a short, stocky Hispanic male with dark spiked hair. He is between the ages of 25 and 30.
