Dr. Coleman Fowble is the only surgeon in the Midlands area performing total hip replacements using an anterior approach. This technique does not require that the patient's muscle be cut during the procedure so the pain control and recovery time post-surgery is significantly diminished. Some patients are able to go home the same day, and the others are generally able to go home after only one night's stay in the hospital. We hope to be offering this procedure in our surgery center very soon.
Doctors Tom Gross and Coleman Fowble are the only surgeons in the Midlands performing hip resurfacing. This innovative procedure replaces the hip without cutting the femoral head and is appropriate for younger patients with significant hip disease. We will be able to perform this procedure in our surgery center on an outpatient basis beginning in April 2012 for patients with BCBS PPO insurance (this includes BBCS fed, but not state health plan). We will be the only ASC in SC offering hip resurfacing on an outpatient basis.
Dr. Ivan LaMotta is able to perform 1 and 2 level ACDF procedures in our ASC for BCBS PPO patients. He is the only spine surgeon offering these procedures in an ASC setting in the Midlands. Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) is a surgical procedure performed to remove a herniated or degenerative disc in the cervical (neck) spine. The surgeon approaches the spine from the front, through the throat area. After the disc is removed, the vertebrae above and below the disc space are fused together.
