NEW YORK, NY (WIS) - The North Carolina dad who became an instant celebrity after posting a video on YouTube shooting up his daughter's laptop, said that he kept the 15-year-old's data before pumping nine bullets into it.

In an appearance on NBC's Today show, Tommy Jordan told his daughter Hannah Marie that he had a surprise for her. He said he saved the computer's hard drive, which still holds her photos and other data, before shooting up the computer on February 7.

"I didn't go out there and just empty an entire clip into my daughter's laptop," said Jordan. "There a little bit of thought in it."

Jordan, his wife Amy, and their daughter said that the video's 31 million YouTube views has added scrutiny to their lives, a lesson for anyone online.

Jordan's wife says her husband is very intelligent and thoughtful. "He rarely does anything without thinking it through," said Dr. Amy Jordan.

The Albemarle father and daughter both admit to overreacting. "She made a mistake that day," said Jordan. "I made a mistake that day."

"I think he overreacted a little bit, but I understand," said Hannah Marie, who has been grounded since early February. "We were laughing about it soon afterwards."

She wrote an apology note to her parents, but her Facebook access is still restricted.

"I have a great kid," said Jordan. "A lot of people took eight minutes and 20 seconds to judge me and they took 30 seconds of what I read of Hannah's note to judge her."

Jordan handed Hannah Marie the hard drive on the show Wednesday morning and told her that she should hold onto in until she got a new laptop.
