RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Three middle school students were sent to the hospital after a pick-up truck rear-ended the school bus they were riding in Monday morning.
According to the Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 7:45 a.m. near the intersection of Quails Hills Dr. and Bitternut Dr. near Horrell Hill. Nine students and a driver were on the bus when the collision occurred.
A spokesperson with Richland One School District said the three students taken to Palmetto Health Richland were complaining of neck, shoulder, or head pain. The bus was on its way to Hopkins Middle School.
Troopers said both vehicles were driving north on Bitternut Rd. and, as the bus was stopping to pick up some students, the truck hit the back of the bus.
The driver of the truck was uninjured and was charged with driving too fast for conditions.
