LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (WIS) - Police say one of the first clues the Nike shoes might be fake was the logo of Michael Jordan. The former NBA star had too many fingers, an officer wrote in his report.

That the image and other tips led Gwinnett County police to seize 78 pairs of Nike sneakers that authorities contend are counterfeit.

After Gwinnett County police stopped Kotina LaShan Feaster, 39, of Rock Hill and Jessica Pennick, 29, of Chester, on Interstate 85 northeast of Atlanta on Saturday, an officer started asking questions.

According to an arrest report, the officer smelled an odor of marijuana and saw a marijuana roach in the ashtray. As the officer searched the vehicle, he found several boxes of Nike shoes and a fake Louis Vuitton bag.

Aside from Michael Jordan's six fingers, investigators said the serial numbers on the shoe's tongue did not match the numbers on the box. Officers said they could peel the Nike logos right off what appeared to be Nike Air Jordans.

Police said the shoes and bag were valued at over $24K.

Police believe the women had driven to the Atlanta-area to buy the shoes art flea markets and were headed back to South Carolina to sell them.

Feaster and Pennick face felony charges of having fake or counterfeit goods. Both were released from jail on Sunday afternoon.
