NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A 12-year-old boy is still recovering from a gunshot wound after his teen brother accidentally shot him in the face last week, police say.

North Charleston Police Department officers responded to Trident Hospital last Thursday after the boys' father called to let them know he was headed to the hospital and could not stop for police. Upon arrival, the father told police that he had been eating at a restaurant on Dorchester Road when his 15-year-old son called to tell him he shot his younger brother in the left cheek.

The victim told police that he was sitting on the couch watching TV when his brother walked in, pointed a handgun at him, and pulled the trigger. The 12-year-old boy said he didn't fell any pain nor did he know he had been shot until his older brother began yelling.

When the child's father brought him to the hospital, doctors saw that the bullet entered the left cheek before exiting below the chin and re-entering the right chest.

The 15-year-old was not charged with a crime as the shooting was ruled an accident.
