COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - The season's first real blast of cold temperatures could bring the Midlands its first look at wintry precipitation this winter.
First Alert Storm Team Meteorologist Ben Tanner says clouds will increase quickly Monday afternoon with sleet or chilly rain in the forecast for the Midlands starting Tuesday morning.
"The rain could begin mixed with light sleet before transitioning to all rain," said Tanner. "Rain totals will likely range between a trace and a tenth of an inch in most areas."
Any frozen precipitation that does fall is not expected to accumulate because surface temperatures will be well above freezing.

Areas west and north of Columbia could see more significant winter precipitation including sleet and snow.
The temperatures are expected to be around freezing at daybreak, but quickly rise to the lower 50's.
Wednesday looks fabulous with a few additional showers arriving Thursday, Tanner said.
