ELGIN, SC (WIS) - Two men with extensive criminal records are in jail after leading a sheriff's investigator on a dangerous pursuit through several neighborhoods Monday morning, according to Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews.
Marcus Antwon Greene, 24, and Davon Jermaine Mickle, 26, both of Camden, were arrested around 11:15 a.m. after crashing their car while fleeing from a deputy near US 1 and Rabon Rd. in Elgin.
Matthews said it all started when an investigator responded to a call of a fight in progress at Young's store on US 1 in Lugoff. The investigator responded because all uniformed patrol officers were tied up on other calls, said the sheriff.
A description of the suspects' vehicle was transmitted by 911 dispatch and the investigator spotted the suspects' vehicle on US 1 between Lugoff and Elgin. The investigator began pursuing the vehicle as it went through several neighborhoods, running cars off the road, according to Matthews.
The pursuit ended when Greene ran his vehicle into a ditch, Matthews said. Both Greene and Mickle fled the scene on foot.
The investigator pursued Greene on foot and was able to arrest him as he was attempting to break into the back door of a home on Rabon Circle. In the meantime, Mickle attempted to hide behind a storage building behind a home on Hickory Ln., only to be spotted by the homeowner who called 911, the sheriff said. Deputies who were nearby were able to apprehend Mickle.
The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office had three bench warrants outstanding on Greene, who has an extensive arrest record to include arrests for aggravated assault, resisting arrest, numerous narcotics violations, weapons violations, possession of stolen firearms, giving false information, DUS (3rd), driving without a license, traffic violations, lynching, assault with intent to kill, criminal domestic violence, burglary, kidnapping and armed robbery with a deadly weapon. He will know face charges of failure to stop for a blue light, DUS (4th), resisting arrest and simple possession of marijuana.
Mickle will be charged with breach of peace and resisting arrest. He has previous arrests for multiple narcotics violations, traffic offenses, hit-and-run, driving without a license, resisting arrest, unlawful carrying of a weapon, public disorderly conduct, violation of probation, DUI and DUS.
"It still amazes me how people with these criminal records are allowed to remain on our streets," said Matthews. "Hopefully, our judicial system will finally decide that enough is enough with these two, but I am not optimistic."
Both men are being held at the Kershaw County Detention Center.
