COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - A man accused of hitting and killing a woman who had stopped to pick up some trash that had fallen out of her vehicle Wednesday night will stay in jail for now.

A judge ruled Monday morning that Romeo Romero, Jr. would remain incarcerated with no bond after turning himself in on Sunday.

A warrant was issued Friday for Romero, Jr. who turned himself in at the Lexington County Detention Center at about 11:00 a.m. Additional charges against Romero may be filed.  He remains in custody.

A warrant was issued for Romero on Friday.

A pickup truck suspected to be involved in the fatal hit-and-run Wednesday near Pelion was found abandoned Friday.

Investigators say Romero hit 59-year-old Irma Hudson Wednesday as she stepped out of her truck to pick up some trash that had flown out the back of the vehicle.

Pelion Police Chief Chris Garner tells WIS that a Pelion police officer pulled Romero over for speeding moments after the hit and run, but crash investigators hadn't gotten word out about it yet. Garner says Romero was written a speeding ticket and drove away.

Investigators say if the traffic stop hadn't occurred, they wouldn't have had much information about the Romero to name him.
