PELION, SC (WIS) - The South Carolina Highway Patrol is looking for a driver who hit and killed a Lexington County woman on Highway 302.
The Lexington County Coroner's Office says 59-year-old Irma L. Hudson was hit and killed Wednesday night after investigators say she stepped out of her vehicle to pick up some trash that had flown out of the back of her truck.
Hudson's friend Donna Aaron doesn't understand how somebody could have driven away after hitting her.
"How could you not have stopped?" asked Aaron.
Aaron said Hudson was well known around town.
"Irma was one of those people who never met any strangers," said Aaron. "Very dedicated to her family, her children, her mom. Extremely hard worker."
The accident was just a minute away from Hudson's home.
"just come forward admit to what you've done and come forward. It's not fair..really not fair."
The Highway Patrol says a child was in the vehicle but was not hurt in the accident.
Troopers say Hudson was struck by a 1998-2000 GMC pick-up truck.
Investigators say the truck has a Texas license tag of BC 49014. They also believe that truck to have damage in the front bumper and to be missing a GMC emblem.
Troopers do have a person of interest they are seeking in this accident. They've identified the man as Romeo Romero, Jr.
If you have any information about this case, you are asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
