COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - USC head football coach Steve Spurrier is recovering nicely from knee replacement surgery he had about a month ago.
The coach is attacking rehab with the same intensity he was when putting together a game plan to take down an SEC rival.
Spurrier walked the sidelines all season long with a noticable limp. It was the result of four previous knee surgeries.
Spurrier's daily rehab sessions consist of warm-up time on a stationary bike. Then he goes through a series of exercises designed to improve the flexibility of his knee.
Then there's the the "torture chamber" -- it's like a blood pressure cuff. The more you pump, the more it straightens out the knee, and then you see how long you can stand it.
Spurrier says he's looking forward to getting a lot more use out of the knee than he has before.
"Actually, right now my knee's better than it's ever been and that's maybe 10 years or so because I just had a bad knee. There was just not much cartilage left, ligament was torn and was just sort of hanging in there," said Spurrier. "It wasn't painful, but it was just very weak.
