Person tased after HS basketball game fight

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – Police had to use a Taser after a fight broke out at a high school basketball game Friday.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police told WBTV News that after Olympic High School hosted Harding University in a varsity basketball game a fight broke out.

When officers attempted to break up the fight police said a third person attempted to jump in. That person was tased by police and taken into custody.

Paramedics were called to the scene to treat the tased person. They treated him and released him back to police custody, a Medic supervisor said.

Police are not sure if this is the first time an officer has had to use a taser since CMPD was issued new, safer tasers last month.

The Tasers the department had been using prior to January 2012 had resulted in the death of two people… following alleged criminal incidents.

Police said the people involved in the fight were not students of Harding or Olympic high schools.

One person police are questioning was actually suspended from Charlotte-Mecklenburg School property and shouldn't have been at the game, police said.
