COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - For the second week in a row, City of Columbia Animal Services employees showed up to work Monday morning to find several dogs missing.

According to a Columbia Police Department incident report, six dogs disappeared from the shelter located at 127 Humane Lane sometime between 4:00 p.m. on Sunday and 7:30 a.m. on Monday.

The report states that the thief or thieves broke into the building and then somehow coaxed six pit bulls, including a pregnant one, out of their kennels and then fled with the dogs.

This is the second dog theft from the shelter in just seven days. Just last week, five pit bulls were stolen during the same time frame.

When employees got to work on Jan. 30, eight cages had been broken into and five pit bulls were taken, according to another police report. The cages were secured with locks, but according to the report, the suspect was somehow able to bend the locks and force the cages and kennels open.

Columbia police and officials with the shelter said this is an ongoing investigation.
