CAYCE, SC (WIS) - People living on Duncan Court in Cayce are mourning the loss of a neighbor killed in a mobile home fire Wednesday night.
"I was really upset. I cried all night," said Jessica Shealy.
Shealy had just spoken with her next door neighbor, Robert Seymour, Wednesday afternoon, just hours before the fire broke out.
"He went to go in the house but he saw me, started talking about his wife," said Shealy. "He was down. I could tell something wasn't right with him."
It would be the last time Shealy saw him alive.
Cayce Police believe the 50-year-old may have started the fire by accident. Investigators are looking at a kerosene heater in the living room as a possible cause.
Shealy says around 10:00 p.m. she and her husband saw smoke coming from Seymour's home.
"When I came around and saw the flames, I just knew he was in there." Shealy said. "We beat on the trailer. We just couldn't get to him."
They called 911. When police arrived, they extinguished the fire and found Seymour.
"It was just real devastating you know having him be pulled from the trailer and I knew he was gone," said Shealy.
