COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Texas Gov. Rick Perry is hedging his bets on South Carolina to help restart his presidential campaign after a disappointing finish in New Hampshire.
Perry appeared at Doc's Barbecue Wednesday to campaign. In the crowd of South Carolinians were a few Texas natives.
Colleen Morrow says for her its between Perry and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum. Morrow was born in the lone star state, came to Columbia in 1971.
"I like what I've seen of him," said Morrow. "I think he pretty much has the Texas ethic of my word, when I say something I'm going to do it."
These days, Marcus Hart lives in Columbia, but he used to share a state with the governor and the title of veteran. The two met long ago when Perry was in charge of Texas agriculture. They met again today.
Hart's wife says they are most certainly supporters.
"They were in Texas together, his chances are just as good as everybody else's," said Hart.
But Perry got less than one percent of the vote in New Hampshire, and didn't so well in Iowa, two races he says don't really matter.
"South Carolina picks presidents," said Perry. "That's what you all do, you're going to pick presidents. That's the reason I came here, I want to share with South Carolina my vision for America."
