MERRIMACK, N.H. (AP) -

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich says he anticipates finishing in the "top three or four" in the New Hampshire primary and confronting Mitt Romney in South Carolina.

Gingrich visited three polling places on Tuesday to greet voters taking part in the first-in-the-nation primary.

Gingrich predicted that two out of three GOP voters would vote for a candidate other than Romney despite their familiarity with the former Massachusetts governor.

He told reporters aboard a press bus that the "ideal South Carolina fight" would pit him, a "Georgia conservative," against Romney, "a Massachusetts moderate."

Gingrich says Romney's leadership at Bain Capital is fair game because Romney has made his business expertise central to his campaign.

The former speaker has charged that the venture capital firm went into some troubled companies, took money out and left people without jobs.
