CATAWBA, NC (WBTV) - Beleaguered former NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield appeared in court Wednesday morning – but few people saw him.
Mayfield was overshadowed by Adam Baker, whose disabled daughter went missing and was killed last year.
Mayfield was appearing in Catawba County court. He's been charged with drug possession after authorities raided his home and found some meth inside, deputies say.
Many members of the media were following Adam Baker, who is charged with identity theft and obtaining property under a false pretense.
His 10-year-old daughter Zahra was killed in 2010 and his wife Elisa Baker pleaded guilty to 2nd degree murder in the death of Zahra, who was a two-time cancer survivor and lost a leg and most of her hearing in the battle against the disease.
Mayfield was in the courtroom for perhaps a minute while everyone was pursing Adam Baker, court officials said.
Mayfield's court date was continued to March 5.
Adam Baker is expected to be back in a courtroom on Thursday.
