MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) One
man has been charged after firing a weapon at his own car in the city limits of
Myrtle Beach.
According to a Myrtle Beach incident
report, officers responded to a gas station at the intersection of 70th Avenue
and Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach to a reported shooting shortly before 10 a.m. Monday. A witness told police
a man shot at a black truck several times with a handgun in the parking lot of
the gas station. The suspect was running toward the truck on Kings Highway, but
the witness did not know which direction the suspect had come from.
After firing at the truck,
the witness stated that the suspect ran toward the north end of the parking lot
and fled the scene.
The suspect was located in
the area while officers were taking the witness's statement. The incident
report obtained by WMBF News states the suspect discarded his 9mm Smith and
Wesson handgun in a garbage dumpster.
Ronald Lee Gates, 28, of
Knoxville, TN reported his car stolen earlier Monday and claimed he spotted his
car at the intersection of 75th Avenue North and Kings Highway, said Cpl Bland
with the Myrtle Beach Police Department.
Gates then fired a shot in
the direction of the vehicle, but no one was harmed, Bland said.
Gates has been charged with
discharging a firearm within city limits.
