
Chelsea Washington joined WIS in October of 2011. She was born in Columbia, SC, but grew up in Northern Virginia. She attended James Madison University, earning a degree in Public Relations and continued her education at American University, where she received a Master's Degree in Broadcast Journalism and Public Affairs. Chelsea then worked for Fox News, as a production assistant, and later an associate producer. Her assignments included Special Report with Brit Hume and Weekend Live. Her time at Fox provided exposure to Capitol Hill events, Congressional hearings and the 2008 Presidential Campaign.
After this experience at Fox, Chelsea became a general assignment reporter at the ABC affiliate in Richmond, Virginia. Among other significant stories, she reported on the murder of UVA student and lacrosse player Yeardley Love, a multiple-murder case in nearby Farmville, VA, and on unfair housing practices in Richmond, which was used in a HUD investigation.
Chelsea loves reading, politics, and sampling new restaurants. She is committed to public service and looks forward to becoming involved in local community organizations. She is excited to be back in her birthplace. Chelsea is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists.
