COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - South Carolina's "big two" NCAA football teams are headed for post-season bowls following a wild college football season.

In defeating Virginia Tech Saturday night 38-10, the Clemson Tigers (10-3, 7-2 ACC) have secured a BCS bowl bid to play in the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida Jan. 4.

Clemson will play West Virginia out of the Big East.

Meanwhile, the Gamecocks (10-2, 6-2 SEC) are headed to the Capital One Bowl in Orlando, Florida, to face the Nebraska Cornhuskers (9-3, 5-3, Big 10)

The bowl will pit coach Steve Spurrier against a team that dashed his national championship title hopes as the Florida Gators coach in the 1996 Fiesta Bowl.

The Cornhuskers and the Gamecocks have not faced each other since 1987 where Nebraska won 30-21.

In poll standings, South Carolina cracked the top 10 in the final regular season AP and Coaches polls, coming in at No. 9 and No. 10, respectively.

Clemson now finds themselves in the top 15 in both polls coming in at No. 14.

As for the top two teams in the nation, LSU secured the No. 1 spot in the BCS National Championship game after handily defeating the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship Saturday, 42 - 10. BCS No. 2, the Alabama Crimson Tide, did not play Saturday, but earned enough votes to play for the national championship.

Oklahoma State will play Stanford in the Fiesta Bowl and Wisconsin and Oregon will play each other in the Rose Bowl Game.

Despite losing to Clemson in the ACC Championship, Virginia Tech shocked the BCS world by receiving an invitation to the Sugar Bowl to play against Michigan.
