Kudos to DHEC for officially banning synthetic drugs bath salts and K-2. Bath salts are synthetic substances that have the same effect as methamphetamine, and K-2 is a form of synthetic marijuana. Both of these drugs have been sold over the counter and readily accessible to anyone looking for a quick, cheap, legal high. This new state ban means that anyone who possesses , sells or manufactures K-2 or bath salts could face prison time or up to a five thousand dollar fine.
DHEC previously declared that bath salts and synthetic marijuana represented a public health crisis, and the outcry for these products to be banned has been loud and strong. The city of Columbia banned the drugs last month and Greenville and Newberry counties have followed suit. I'm glad to see this swift and punitive action taken by DHEC to get these dangerous drugs off the street.
That's my perspective. Let me hear from you.
